The lyrics are about a woman at a party who everybody is mad for - I feel like everybody's had that feeling about someone at one point or another. But whilst writing the song, I thought that the idea was a bit one dimensional. This led me to wonder what that person might be thinking themselves. It hit me that, someone with all those eyes on them could feel like the loneliest person in the room, which is where the hook comes from.
