For a long time Rachel was a couple chords I used to noodle around over, until eventually I landed on a consistent line between both chords. I thought then “I should write a song with this.” I don't really remember much else from the writing process but I do remember wanting a massive sounding guitar solo at the end. So I channelled my inner J Mascis with a big fuzzy tone.

The lyrics are a story of pressure: feeling under pressure to do something or be someone. Rachel can be the embodiment of anyone, just trying to cope with the hardships of everything around them. In the song, illness is her way of coping, voluntary or not, and escaping the cycle she's found herself in. I think the song can mean something to most people in that way.
